Taking a bribe proved costly for assistant police inspector Zakir Momin and sub-inspector Javed Baagwan, as the designated Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court sentenced them to three years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a `10,000 fine.

Sheikh Rehman’s baggage which contained `25,000 cash and clothes was stolen from Mohammad Shekhani’s guest house. Rehman had approached the Dongri police station to register a complaint. However, without registering the complaint, the accused Baagwan called Shekhani and his son Abdul Raif to the police station for inquiry.
Baagwan later told Shekhani that his son Abdul was responsible for the baggage and he would not register a case if Shekhani paid him `10,000. Momin demanded `2,000. The ACB, Mumbai, laid a trap and arrested Baagwan and Momin, while accepting a bribe of `12,000 on December 20, 2000.
