Cops rescue 5 couples from drowning at Bandra

Five couples were rescued from drowning by the fire officials on Thursday evening from Carter Road at Bandra (West).

Fire officials said the fire control room received a call around 4.15pm informing them about the incident. A fire brigade was rushed to the spot and within minutes the couples were rescued.

The group was sitting on the rocks near the sea in front of the office of the additional commissioner of police (west region).

Fire officials said the couples were sitting on the rocks when the water began rising. It is only when they were surrounded by water from all sides that they realised their lives were at risk.

“The problem arises when they are so engrossed in each other that they do not realise the level of water is rising,” said a police official requesting anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

A local who saw the couples shouting for help informed the control room. None of them have sustained injuries. The police said no case has been registered.
