Cops struggle to identify woman

The Mumbai Central government railway police (GRP) have circulated photographs of the woman who appeared to be in her early twenties, but so

far have not received any response. After the post-mortem report was handed over to the police on Monday, a case of murder was registered. The police have ruled out sexual assault.

The woman, in a blue salwar kameez, was found wrapped in a bed sheet and left under the seat. She had strangulation marks on her neck and injuries on parts of her body.

The murder had been committed a few hours before a porter found the body at Churchgate station. The bed sheet in which the woman’s body was found also contained 27 sets of old clothes.

The police are inquiring with other police stations to find out whether any missing complaint was lodged of a woman fitting the description of the dead woman. Photographs of the woman have also been flashed throughout the city in the hope of someone identifying her. “The body had not decomposed and hence there is the possibility that someone might identify the woman in the photographs,” said Dilip Chauhan, assistant commissioner of police (railway crime).
