Cops trace Chembur killer through cellphone

A wrong mobile number that the prime accused left on a piece of paper at the residence of the 90-year-old priest who was murdered on September 18, finally led to his arrest by the Mumbai police crime branch from Uttar Pradesh.

Sources in the crime branch said Ganesh Kanojiya had planned to rob S Parshuraman and his wife Rajamma, 78, for around six months, when he was employed with an agency that repaired fridges of a particular brand. Kanojiya had repaired their fridge at the time.

Kanojiya visited the residence of Parshuraman three days before the murder on the pretext of repairing their fridge. After this he visited them over two more days. Sources said on each day Kanojiya would complete some work but would tell them he would come back the next day as there was some more work remaining.

He had left a phone number, which was similar to his real number with the last digit changed. Crime branch officials checked the number and worked out the combination and through this found out Kanojiya’s name and narrowed their search on him.
