The chairman of law committee and corporator from A ward, Makarand Narvekar, has alleged that he was threatened by octroi agents after he conducted a raid at the Vashi octroi post on May 1.

Narvekar had intercepted 3 trailors, 5 trucks and 3 tempos that were allowed to pass without paying a fee. The vehicles, which were transporting steel rods and other construction materials, were later taken to the BMC yard and the civic officials had confiscated the goods.
He has also alleged that additional municipal commissioner Rajiv Jalota denied help to him. “Jalota told me that the corporation is aware of the irregularities, but no action can be taken. It is shocking when a senior official shows such helplessness,” alleged Narvekar.
The corporator has filed a police complaint and written to the police commissioner.
