The Bombay high court was hearing a petition moved by residents of the area opposing the construction of the proposed film museum.

The petitioners had urged the court to direct the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) and the Director General of Films Division to shift the project to Film City in Goregaon, which according to the petition would be an appropriate alternative location. The court asked the traffic police to give findings on whether they have conducted a survey of the area. Other authorities, including the civic body, have also been asked to file a reply to the petition.

Petitioner’s counsel Jamshed Mistry contended that apart from the area being a silent zone because of the presence of a hospital and school in the area, the proposal has not got a clearance from the MoEF.

The court has adjourned the hearing for four weeks.
