Court stays action against actor in case filed by travel agency

Actor Sunny Deol has got temporary relief from the Bombay High Court in a case filed by a travel agency alleging that he had not paid for the air tickets and accommodation it had arranged.

Justice B.R. Gavai in the high court granted an interim stay on the criminal proceeding initiated against Deol by a metropolitan magistrate and issued notice to M/s Bonik Travels and the Maharashtra government asking them to reply in six weeks.

The case relates to a private complaint Bonik Travels had filed a case in 2008 accusing Deol of not paying for air tickets and accommodation it had arranged for him on a few occasions between December 2002 and December 2003.

Deol’s counsel Ashok Mundargi and Subhash Desai pointed out that the actor and two companies he was involved with, Sunny Sound Private Limited and Vijeyata Films, had done business worth crores of rupees with Bonik Travels between 1998 and 2006.

Deol’s petition urges the Bombay High Court to call for the records from the magistrate’s court pertaining to the case and quash the proceeding against him.
