The Belapur civil court on Monday granted an ad interim relief to residents of two housing societies in Ghansoli and stayed demolition of the buildings till its next directive.

Residents of Sukh Shanti Society and Srinivas Society 1 and 2 of Ghansoli Sector 25 had filed a case against the City and Industrial Development Corporation’s (CIDCO’s) demolition of their houses.
“CIDCO has undertaken a demolition drive of houses encroached on land acquired by it. About 25,000 houses will be razed,” said Nimish Mehta, advocate of the petitioners.
Residents of the two societies argued that CIDCO had only served notices to the builders about its demolition drive. The residents had not been issued any notice.
“As per rules, residents should also get a notice if their houses are going to be razed. Also, CIDCO had regularised the structures in 1974, so how can it be encroached? The court has granted stay for the demolition,” said Mehta.
