Although he had heard the phrase a number of times, it was on Wednesday that 27-year-old Kumarpal Kothari realised what ‘twice lucky’ meant. Kumarpal was barely seven-feet away from the bomb at Opera House. Separated only by a window, Kothari escaped with hardly any scratches.

His cousin, Keyur Kothari, 29, said, “Kumarpal is often outside, either carrying diamonds or interacting with brokers at the tea stall. Fortunately, he was on his office on Wednesday.”
Keyur, however, wasn’t as lucky. Standing by the window when the blast happened, the glass shards pierced his head and face.
A CCTV footage of the blast shows the air-conditioner falling on Keyur’s head. “I became numb and was walking in the street. An passerby dropped me to Saifee hospital,” he said.
