Subodh Jain, general manager, CR, has written to the chief secretary in this regard to help prevent a delay in services on the harbour line in the area.

"We run harbour line services at its optimum capacity. Hence maintaining punctuality is often difficult. In case of any irregular activity the time schedule is disturbed," said Jain.

Even when there is normal traffic, trains are forced to halt at Chunnabhatti level crossing till the traffic has moved.

"During peak hours, trains have to halt at the level crossing for over five minutes which in turn causes delays of three or four minutes to trains that follow," explained a senior railway official from the Mumbai division, requesting anonymity.

Apart from Chunnabhatti, commuters also complained of delays at Rawli junction in Wadala.
