MUMBAI: Parents of students studying in Padmakar Dhamdhere School, Dadar, run by Indian Education Society, have complained to the education department that the school is selling notebooks bearing the school emblem and textbooks, in a store on the school’s campus.

“While the school has not made it mandatory for us to purchase the books from the store, there is indirect pressure to do so. Students are pulled up in class if they do not have notebooks bearing the school logo. These books are only available in the store on the premises,” said a parent of a Class 1 student.

The education department has not permitted schools to sell books (except for textbooks), uniforms, stationery and other accessories. “Schools can’t force any student to buy a book from them nor indulge in any commercial activities,” said BB Chavan, deputy director of education, Mumbai region.
