On November 27, four unidentified people barged into Asha Ansar’s house at Vikhroli and strangulated her.

Johnson Nadar, 46, was arrested on December 2 for his suspected involvement in the murder and later released on bail.

“We interrogated Nadar and even went as far as Tamil Nadu as part of the investigation. As of now we have not come across anything that proves Nadar had any part to play in Ansar’s murder,” said an officer from Parksite police.

Nadar was arrested after followers of Ansar, who was heading the All India Hijra Association, suspected that the developer might have plotted the murder as he had been fighting over the eunuch’s land at Mulund.

The Parksite police had earlier arrested Ravi Padmanaban Reddy, 49, alias Ashaamma, who was second in command after Gopiamma in the eunuch community.

“We suspected that the deceased was murdered so that Reddy could become the head of the All India Hijra Association. The Ansar’s followers alleged that Nadar, who was in dispute with Ansar over a plot, was behind the murder,” the officer said.

Police inspector Sunil Bhosle said the police were yet to find any clue to link Nadar to the murder.
