Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Monday sympathised with scam-tainted party leaders —MP Suresh Kalmadi and former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan saying he felt both of them were innocent.

“I am hurt because what Chavan and Bhai (brother) Kalmadi went through. I personally feel that both of them are innocent,” Singh said while addressing a party workers rally.
Singh, who comes to temple town of Pandharpur every year on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi, addressed the party workers at Congress Bhavan here before heading for Delhi.
“Judiciary should consider that it is its duty to grant bail once charge sheet is filed and the person is not in position to influence the investigation. It is not appropriate to keep these people in the jail,” Singh said.
He, however, insisted that the Congress did not spare those who were allegedly involved in the scam or corruption.
Singh criticised the BJP saying that the party was not taking any action against Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa even after Lokayukta Santosh Hegde had held him guilty.
