The accused, Vikas Kadam (32), is from Thane and has a diploma in computer graphics. Kadam said that he was not getting a job as both his legs were affected by polio.

“In order to earn his living, Kadam came up with this idea of using his computer skill and con the unsuspecting and needy commuters of long distance trains,” said Dilip Gore, senior police inspector, of Kurla railway police station.

The police said, on Tuesday, a special squad of ticket checkers found a man possessing a fake ticket on the Chappra bound Godan Express.

The fake ticket holder, Harishankar Yadav (42), said he had purchased the ticket from Kadam. When asked Kadam told the police that he had no idea about the fake ticket.

“The accused told us that a person from Thane was the one who would hand him the ticket to pass it over to the commuters,” added Gore.

The accused said that he was not getting a job because of his disability and was therefore finding it difficult to sustain his family. Yadav was arrested for possessing a fake ticket, as it is illegal to purchase tickets from an unauthorised person.
