MUMBAI: For Navneet Raghuram, 17, being physically-challenged was never a hurdle in his pursuit of academic excellence. After bagging 94% marks in the Class 10 exam, the commerce student scored 90.4% in the Class 12 exam.

Navneet said his success was the result of a crucial sacrifice made by his parents. Two years ago, his family moved from their home in Dombivli to Mulund so that he can be closer to his college. “My parents didn’t want me to travel by train, as I can barely walk for more than 5 to 10 minutes without hurting my leg,” said Navneet, who studied at Mulund College of Commerce.

Navneet now aspires to become a chartered accountant. He said his friends and family had always been supportive of him. Gulab Jha, a visuallychallenged student from SIES College in Sion, who scored 68.46%, credited his success to his college. “I want to thank everybody in my college, especially my principal who never ceased to inspire and motivate me.” Although Jha is upset with the result as he was expecting to score more, he acknowledged his writers, who wrote the exam for him and the readers, who helped him prepare for the test.
