Docs call off strike after civic body promises solution

“We have been assured that our demands will be met, so we have called off the strike for now. The security situation inside KEM is inadequate. Crowded areas like the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) should have at least five security guards round the clock,” said a KEM Hospital doctor and MARD member, who wished to remain anonymous.

“Every general ward, too, should be assigned two guards,” the doctor said.

The demands of the resident doctors were very well put forward, Mhaiskar said. "Our immediate concern now will be to train existing security staff at civic hospitals,” Mhaiskar said.

“We are also looking at posting more ex-servicemen as security staff at major hospitals. The dean is also working out internal re-organisation of security personnel at KEM Hospital.”
