Fateh Bahadur, a pani puri vendor, underwent a four-hour surgery after a metal wire got lodged in his body when the bomb exploded at Zaveri Bazaar on Wednesday.

While doctors at GT hospital were unsure about his survival when he was brought in, on Friday he showed progress, although he is critical.
One of the first few patients to be rushed in, the doctors conducted the operation immediately. “The surgery had to be performed immediately without referring him for investigations as his blood pressure was falling severely. Any delay would have sent him into coma,” said Dr Vipin Mundada, a senior doctor at the hospital.
On opening his abdomen, doctors discovered multiple internal injuries and severe bleeding. A metal wire in his body had injured his spleen and liver severely. Holes had developed in his intestines and diaphragm.
The wire will be handed over for forensic investigation.
Mundada said Bahadur has so far only said that he has five children and is the sole breadwinner of his family.
