In a move to improve the tracking of sonographies on pregnant women in the city, the civic body has asked doctors to fill an online form for every sonography performed with the patients’ details.

Since October 31, the health department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been conducting workshops to train doctors on how to fill the online form on www.savethebabygirl.com, a website used by the Kolhapur district administration to track sonographies.
The Preconception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act bans the use of sonograpy machines to detect the sex of the foetus to prevent female foeticide. The Act requires doctors to submit a physical record (Form F) for each patient on whom sonography is performed.
“This system will increase the reporting of the number of patients examined with the sonography machines. Doctors who do not fill any form in a month will be under our scanner,” said Dr Asha Advani, special officer, BMC’s family welfare department.
“The city has 1,700 sonography centres and it is difficult to develop a monthly report on the Form F every month. This system will help us keep track of the forms.”

In case of online submission, the form cannot be submitted unless all 19 parameters are filled,” Advani added.
About 1200 sonography centres have already registered on the website.
