Docs remove spray can from man’s rectum

Doctors at Thane Civil Hospital received an unusual case on February 20 when a 60-year-old man came to them with severe abdominal pain. Upon examining him, the doctors were astonished to find an entire can of women’s body spray inside the man’s rectum.

The doctors immediately performed a laparotomy, where they cut open the man’s abdomen to retrieve the object. After a surgery that went on for one-and-a-half hours they removed the 24 cm long and 6 cm wide can.

Dr Nishikanth Rokade of Thane Civil Hospital, said, “As soon as the patient came to us we got an X-Ray taken and found the foreign body in his rectum. Also, his blood pressure was high and his stomach had bloated.”

Dr Rokade said, “The patient admitted to us that he had put the spray can in his rectum himself. He said he had done it as he was experiencing some pain in the area.

This is a case of perversion or psychiatry, which, though common in the Western world, is rare in India. In those countries, generally a small pen, pencil or a candle is found in a rectum, but an entire spray can is something we are seeing for the first time.”

The patient is a resident of Manorama Nagar in Thane (W) and lives with his son who works with a private firm. His son refused to speak to the media, saying his father was mentally unstable.

The doctors said though the patient’s condition was stable, he would be kept in the hospital for observation for the next eight days.
