Dr Surendra Wankhade, who was on leave for the last 15 days, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his second-floor flat at Atre Vachanalaya. “We got a call from Dr Bharat Bhule, his colleague,” said Inspector Ramnath Shinde of the Dombivli police station. “We found a note which said nobody should be held responsible for his act.”

Dr Wankhade lived alone in Dombivli. His wife, a nurse, works in Akola and his two daughters live in Vidarbha.

On August 7, he had tried to commit suicide by consuming sleeping pills. A friend had rushed him to hospital.
