The state election commission will probe allegations that people were paid to attend a rally addressed by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in Beed last Thursday.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday lodged a complaint about this with the state EC, referring to a news clip on a Marathi news channel that had claimed that people were paid. “We will take action after conducting an inquiry,” said State election commissioner Neela Satyanarayan.
This is the second time since the poll dates were announced that Pawar has been accused of violating the model code of conduct. In the first case, when he laid the foundation stone for a flyover in Pune hours after the dates were announced, the EC decided not to take action after Pawar tendered an unconditional apology.
