“It’s based on an attempt to take students back to nature and educate them about the environment,” said Paresh Pimpale, founder of Eco-folks, at a press conference on Wednesday.

Students will learn how to reduce their carbon footprint through simple gestures like passing their textbooks to their juniors and using jute and cloth bags instead of plastic ones.

The English-medium school, a joint initiative between environmental organisation Eco-folks and Dnyansadhana Education Society has opened admissions to Kindergarten and Class 1 and will begin its new academic year this June. School fee will be Rs 250 per month, in addition to an annual activity fee of Rs 3,000.

“While following the SSC board, we will ensure that students go beyond rote learning and learn through practical experiences and exercises,” said Pimpale.

The school will open on the premises of a BMC school in Goregaon, where four classrooms have been allotted to Valmiki Eco-School.
