Educational Non Government Organisations (NGOs) could assist in implementing the Right to Education Act by working with private schools on integrating disadvantaged students, said Shaheen Mistri at a media interaction on Monday.
Mistri is the founder of the NGO Akanksha and CEO of Teach For India, a movement that aims to build leaders through education.
“As an NGO ourselves, we would be able to help schools perhaps identify economically disadvantaged children, provide support and make sure that they are able to fit in at such schools,” said Mistri.
Mistri was one of six Indian delegates who attended the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship in the US in April this year. Both President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke at the summit. “It was a big thrill and a privilege to hear them both,” said Mistri.
The summit brought together around 250 entrepreneurs from around the world to discuss the importance of entrepreneurship, job creation and community development.
Mistri said that the real work is now, after the summit, for participants like herself to draw on the ideas and discussions from the summit. “One of the things we are looking at is how do you scale the entrepreneurship model. How do you create a spirit of entrepreneurship within the organisation?” said Mistri. “The second takeaway is around technology — so far there has not been enough leveraging around technology.”
