Eight jaundice cases in march at Hinduja

In the past month, eight cases of jaundice have been reported in P.D. Hinduja Hospital, Mahim, and at least three more patients are admitted at Jaslok, Bhatia and Breach Candy hospitals.

Jaundice, or Hepatitis E, is contracted from contaminated water and food and and is accompanied by a yellow discolouration of the skin and eyes that results from infection of the liver.

Dr Hemant Thacker said he has been seeing two to three new cases of jaundice every week. “Usually, jaundice cases crop up in May. This time it has started early,” he said.
