To give students some extra time to prepare for the tests, the University of Mumbai has postponed the engineering exams that were meant to start on May 15 to May 23.

"We changed the dates because students had less time to study since they did not know the outcome of their previous semester that was delayed," said Vilas Shinde, controller of examinations.
Last year, new systems of evaluation such as bar coding and optical marks readers were used for engineering papers. The results were late by 90 days with teachers taking time to get used to the system. There are 51 engineering colleges affiliated to the university.
"When we discussed the exam timetable, it was supposed to begin on May 15. But when the university released the timetable last week, we found that the exams are beginning from May 23. Students are very relieved as they will now have more time to study,' said a principal of an engineering college.
