Every railway station to get a free-to-use ladies’ urinal

There could be a separate urinal for women at railway stations, which they can use free of cost, if Central Railway (CR) acts on its assurance to members of Parliament from Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Thursday.

Railway authorities also assured them of sufficient funds for infrastructure like foot overbridge, skywalks, increasing platform height and ticketing facility.

CR had called a meeting of MPs from the city and outside for their demands.

“MPs have given suggestions including station developments, public amnesties, new railway lines and ticketing facility. Railway has assured them appropriate action on it,” said VN Malegaokar, chief public relations officer, CR.

Some MPs raised the issue of cleanliness of toilets on CR stations and lady commuters being charged for using them. CR general manager Subodh Jain assured them of at least one free-of-cost urinal for lady commuters at every station.

Only six of the around 20 MPs from the city and outside, namely Sanjeev Naik, Suresh Taware, Anand Paranjpe, Eknath Gaikwad, Sanjay Dina Patil and Bharat Kumar Raut, were present for the meeting.
