An extortion offence has been registered in Bhiwandi, against Senior Inspector Pandurang Baburao Darade of the Padgha Police station. Police Inspector Dilip Girdhar Patil of the Thane anti-corruption unit registered the offence.

Patil said Darade demanded Rs 2.10 lakh from Rajesh Patil, a businessman from Amale village, and threatened to register a false offence against him.
Rajesh had in the last three months, given Darade, Rs 1.25 lakh in installments.
However, when Darade began harassing Rajesh for the remaining Rs 85,000, a disturbed Rajesh approached the anti-corruption unit and submitted telephone conversations between him and Darade, which he had recorded on his mobile phone.
After receiving this evidence, the anti-corruption unit began tapping the telephone conversations between Darade and Rajesh, based on which they charged Darade with extortion.
Darade has been absconding since being charged, and three teams from the Thane crime unit have been dispatched to search for the accused.
