Fake encounter case: Another policeman gets bail

Police sub-inspector Anand Patade, arrested in connection with the alleged fake encounter of Ram Narayan Gupta alias Lakkhan Bhaiya, was granted bail on Friday. HT reports.

Police sub-inspector Anand Patade, arrested in connection with the alleged fake encounter of Ram Narayan Gupta alias Lakkhan Bhaiya, was granted bail on Friday.

Patade is the third accused to be released on bail. Earlier, the sessions court had granted bail to constable Devi Das Sakpal on October 13 while the high court on Thursday had granted bail to constable Sunil Solanki.

Special Investigation team said Patade was allegedly part of the encounter team led by senior inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi, who was arrested on March 4. Dismissed encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma is the key accused.

Lakkhan Bhaiya, an alleged Chhota Rajan aide, was killed in an alleged fake encounter in 2006 in Nana Nani Park, Versova. The SIT has arrested 19 accused till now and has filed charge sheet against all, while two are absconding. All are lodged in the Thane Central Jail.
