Until they whipped out a revolver, snatched the diamonds he was carrying and fled.

Lalwani, who works in the diamond showroom owned by Nitin Dedha at Malad (East), was going to deliver a consignment of polished diamonds worth Rs 80 lakh at his office at Borivli.

The four men in a Zen with beacon intercepted his car on the Dindoshi flyover and frisked him.
“Lalwani was driving his Innova van and had crossed the Dindoshi flyover when a Zen with a red-beacon flagged him and gestured him to stop,” said a police officer from Dindoshi police station.

They introduced themselves as Income Tax officials and asked him to open the bag.

“The four men removed the diamonds from the bag and pointed a revolver at him,” added the officer.

The police said the men abandoned the car at Borivli from where the car was seized later.

“We have registered a complaint and are trying to trace the culprits. We will also try to find out who owned the Zen as the vehicle looks stolen,” said Vinayak Kakade from Dindoshi police station.
