A group of four or five families are under the scanner for violating the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) norms by bidding unfairly for the tender money cleared for the purchase of stationery items for the students of civic schools.
On Tuesday, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) submitted to the municipal commissioner documents that indicated that only four-five families under the disguise of more than 15 forefront companies were bidding for all the tenders for stationery items.
“Under the article 13 and 13 (a) of agreement, the civic body prohibits family members, such as father-son, brother, wife etc. from tendering separately under different names for the same contract,” said Sandip Deshpande, standing committee member. He presented a list of families who had bid for the same tender under names of different companies. The tenders were awarded to one of them.
As per the rules, if any such evidence is established then all tenders shall stand rejected and the tender deposit of each such firm/establishment shall be forfeited. In addition, such firms/establishments shall be liable, at the discretion of the municipal commissioner, for penal action including blacklisting. The MNS has demanded, with the help of evidence provided, to stop the purchase order being released to the contractors. The party has already sent a legal notice to municipal commissioner for the same.
Additional municipal commissioner, Manisha Mhaiskar, said that BMC has no control over who bid for the tender. “There are a number of firms which compete in the bidding process. It is not possible for the administration to stop them from competing in an open tender,” she said. Mhaiskar added that, the administration will do a thorough inquiry of the allegations. “We can comment about the action only after we study the evidence,” she said.
