Air traffic came to a standstill at Mumbai airport for at least 40 minutes on Wednesday morning, after
a runway inspection team found that some runway edge lights in the stretch, where the two runways intersect, had come loose.

Soon a long queue of flights was seen stuck on the ground and in mid-air delaying the journeys of hundreds of
passengers by at least an hour.
“Closing the runways was a precautionary measure to fix the lights immediately,” said a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson.
Cloudy skies forced authorities to suspend repairs on the main runway, which is shut for eight hours daily, except on Sundays.
The secondary runway is not equipped for flight operations during low visibility.
