The annual Keli festival, featuring Kerala’s rhythm music, is back with a line up of groups performing vanishing traditions of ‘Thayambaka’ percussion.
In its twentieth year, the three-day festival will be held at the Horniman Circle Garden in Fort, south Mumbai starting coming Thursday.
“The three groups from Kerala will be performing the traditions that have nearly disappeared,” said Ramachandran K, festival director. “We (Keli) helped the groups to research and they learnt from veteran gurus for this festival.”
The Thayambaka festival features percussion artistes from Kerala performing to energetic rhythms in co-ordinated patterns, unique to the southern state.
The troupes have around 10 performers for each show. Keli, a Mumbai based non-profit organisation working for preservation of classical and cultural art forms.
The festival is open to the public for free.
