Dabbawallas from the Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers’ Association have decided to support Anna Hazare’s movement against corruption.

Earlier, all the 5000 odd dabbawallas had decided to join Tuesday’s Azad Maidan meeting in support of Hazare but to avoid inconveniencing their customers, they have decided to deliver tiffins to those who insist on it.

“Several of our customers have decided not to take tiffins and support the anti-corruption movement. So we have to deliver only a few dabbas,” said Kiran Gawande, secretary, Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers’ Charity Trust and Association.

Around 1,000 dabbawallas will go to Azad Maidan at 1pm. They will pledge their support to Hazare’s Jan Lokpal Bill and the anti-corruption drive.

“The dabbawallas who’ll be working will wear their Gandhi topi with the message ‘I am Anna Hazare’ written on it in Marathi and English,” said Shashikanth Gaikar, who will deliver tiffins between Ghatkopar and CST on Tuesday. “We will tell our customers about the importance of the cause.”
