Dengue, which claimed 19 lives in the city, is on the decline, states the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday. The city has, so far, witnessed 770 cases of dengue.
According to the weekly report of the civic body, the number of cases in November has gone down with each week. Compared to 213 cases in October, the city recorded 146 cases the following month. In the last week of the month, the civic body recorded 32 cases, compared to 41 in the first week of November.
Doctors from private hospitals, too, said they are getting fewer cases. “The number of cases has come down to 5-6 a week. Most of them don’t need to be hospitalised,” said Dr Pratit Samdani, consultant physician at Breach Candy Hospital.
Experts said the trend could be because of the change in temperature. Although the city is unusually warm and humid for December, the marginal decline in weather conditions has affected the breeding of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito that causes dengue.
“I am getting very few cases now, maybe one or two per week. Most of them are not severe,” said Dr Shahid Baramre, consultant physician at Kohinoor Hospital.
