Khan’s advocate told the court on Tuesday that he did not want to examine any more defence witnesses.

Judge DW Deshpande asked both sides to make their final arguments from Wednesday. Special public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat will argue first, followed by Khan’s lawyer Shrikant Shivade.

“The stage of examining evidence is now over. We will now proceed for final arguments and conclude the case,” said Gharat.

On Monday, Khan’s driver Ashok Singh testified in the sessions court that he was driving the car at the time of the 2002 accident, for which the actor has been charged.

According to the prosecution, a Toyota Land Cruiser being driven by Khan crashed into a bakery in Bandra on September 28, 2002, killing one person and injuring four others sleeping on the pavement.

The prosecution has examined 27 witnesses, including eyewitnesses, people injured in the accident, employees of Rain Bar and JW Marriott, doctors, forensic experts, an RTO official and police officers.

Khan claimed he was falsely implicated in the case and the car was driven by Singh.

He said he had started shooting for his movie ‘Garv’ in September 2002, for which he had to look fit and so had stopped consuming alcohol.

The defence claimed the driver lost control of the car, causing the accident.
