With barely three days for the final year degree examination to begin, commerce students wasted Monday at the Mumbai University’s Kalina campus correcting their hall tickets.

About 83,000 candidates will sit for the final year BCom examination on Thursday. While some hall tickets had the candidates’ names wrongly spelt, others had the wrong names. In some cases, the optional subjects were incorrect and in others, the code number of the subjects didn’t match.
The examinations department had contacted several candidates who had made an error in filling up their forms and had asked them to get it corrected. Controller of examinations Vilas Shinde said most of the students who had a problem with their hall tickets were from the Institute of Open and Distance Learning.
“A parent or a friend fills up the admission form, someone else fills the exam form and then there are students whose subject codes don’t match, some students have filled two forms. My office has called more than 5,000 candidates and asked them to get the corrections done,” added Shinde. After several of these mistakes were found out, Shidne said, he had to inform exam centres and alter the number of question papers distributed to each centre.
