Final year BSc results out

The pass percentage for the final year Bachelor of Science (BSc) students has dropped by 10 percentage points from last year. The BSc results were declared at midnight on Thursday. The overall pass percentage is 56.88%.

While 11,325 students were enrolled for the course, 10,704 appeared for the exams. Of these, 1,999 passed with a first class and 3,346 with a second class. Around 100 colleges affiliated to the university offer BSc courses.

While university officials said that security measures such as bar coding have ensured a clear picture, colleges said the problem is deeper. “Basic science has become the last choice for students. The ones who come here with a passion for the subject are doing very well. There are so many opportunities now. But those who have taken up the stream out of compulsion, don’t take it very seriously,” said Suhas Pednekar, principal, Ramnarain Ruia College. Other reputed science colleges are facing the same problem. “Many students opting for BSc do so when they do not make it to engineering or medical colleges,” said Kavita Rege, principal, Sathaye College.

The list of meritorious students will be declared for the entire BSc examination along with the result of BSc (computer science) students. The results will be available in the college on June 25. Mark sheets will be sent to all colleges by June 30. This is the first time the university is printing photographs of students on their mark sheets.
