Financial crisis led to Vikhroli murders, suicide

The family of Sanjay Sen, who committed suicide on Friday after killing his wife and son at Vikhroli, told the police that he was depressed due to financial problems. Sen, 32, who had started a garment workshop four months ago with his landlord Mangesh Ambekar, had not paid his workers for the last two months.

He allegedly strangled his wife Pooja, 27, and two-year-old son Tejas to death before hanging himself at his Vikhroli residence in Hanuman Nagar on Friday morning. Sen's parents and two sisters, who reside in West Bengal, came to the city on Saturday.

In their statement to the police on Saturday, the family said Sen had told them about his financial problem due to which he could not even afford to give salary to his employees. One of Sen's employees had told the police about the financial crisis. The police have recorded statements of several other employees to verify the claims.

The police said the preliminary inquiry into the case revealed that Sen had not received the payment of Rs 2 lakh for an order that he had worked on and delivered. He could not even pay his employees' salaries. Sen had 20 daily wage labourers at his workshop.

The police said Sen had tried arranging the money from his friends and business associates but failed. Bhure added that this is the only motive that has been revealed in the inquiries. The police are now awaiting to ascertain the cause of death of Pooja and their son.
