An FIR has been registered against the bodyguards of controversial Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi for allegedly thrashing media persons outside Mumbai International Airport in suburban Andheri, police said on Wednesday.
The FIR was registered against four bodyguards of Modi, who arrived here from Dubai on Tuesday, after they allegedly assaulted media persons and damaged their cameras outside the airport, police said.
"We have recorded the statements of media persons including complainant Santosh Nandi, who is a cameraman with a news channel. Nandi was admitted to hospital following the fight," said Inspector S P Lokhande at Sahar Airport Police Station.
The four bodyguards were booked under IPC Sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 160 (Punishment for committing affray), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), Lokhande said adding further probe was on.
Nandi alleged that the bodyguards punched and kicked media persons when they went for sound-byte of Modi soon after he came out of the airport.
"I was punched and kicked on my stomach and my camera was also damaged in the scuffle. I was admitted in the hospital. The accused should be arrested at the earliest," he said.
