You may soon have to pay around Rs. 100 for travelling a short distance in a fleet cab. Fleet cab operators have asked the state transport authority to increase its minimum distance to 5km from the existing 1km.

Currently, fleet operators charge Rs. 24 for 1km and Rs. 17 for every subsequent kilometre. If the transport authority gives in, the minimum fare for a fleet taxi would be Rs. 92 (1km x Rs. 24 + 4km x Rs. 17= Rs. 92) for 5km.
"Our drivers have to go 3-4km to pick up a short distance fare. They spend more time and fuel in reaching the pick up point," said Jagdish Purohit, MD, Tab Cab.
Other fleet operators have asked for a structured fare formulae. "We have requested for a transparent method similar to the Hakim committee report. According, to our estimate we should get minimum Rs. 5 hike per km," said Siddhartha Pahwa, CEO Meru Cabs.
