The Mumbai Metropoltian Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will be throwing open a 527-metre long flyover at the junction by the end of July.

The flyover has been in the making for nearly seven years. Six lanes wide, it starts a little beyond Netaji Nagar on SG Barve Road, bypasses the busy LBS Road junction and lands on CST road.

The LBS Road junction has for long been subject to traffic jams as vehicles trying to reach the eastern suburbs are obstructed by Kurla-bound vehicles coming from CST road. Vehicles headed to and from CST road can now bypass the LBS road junction by taking the new flyover.

“We hope the flyover will be thrown open to the public by the end of this month,” MMRDA project director Dilip Kawathkar said.

The flyover is part of the much-delayed Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) and has been under construction for close to seven years.

Currently, those travelling from the western suburbs towards Navi Mumbai either take the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road or the Andheri-Kurla road, which takes about 90 minutes to two hours during peak hours. Once the SCLR is complete by 2013, motorists can reach Chembur from the western suburbs in 17 minutes flat.
