Foetus found dumped in dustbin at Kandivli

An offence has been registered against an unidentified accused for allegedly disposing of the foetus.

The foetus was found at around 8.30 am, when locals at Navchetan Agrisamaj Kadamwadi in Hanuman Nagar, Kandivli (East), saw stray dogs barking near the dustbin. On checking it, they found the foetus and alerted the police.

The police then sent it to the Bhagwati Hospital for a postmortem. “The hospital will conduct a DNA test to determine the foetus’ sex,” said Ramrao Pawar, additional commissioner of police (north region). According to prima facie examination, the foetus appears to be around six months old, Pawar added.

The police said they are interrogating locals to ascertain if anyone witnessed the foetus being dumped. “It appears that the accused abandoned it at least two days ago. Stray animals may have chewed on it, which is why the sex is hard to determine. As of now, no locals have come forward as witnesses, but investigations are on,” said Pawar.

A case has been registered against the unidentified accused for concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body (section 318 of the Indian Penal Code).
