Foolproof security for IPL teams

Mumbai Police Commissioner, D. Sivanandhan, said security arrangements have been made “keeping all possibilities in mind”.

“Foolproof security will be provided to the teams during their stay and journeys,” Sivanandhan said.

Sources in the Mumbai police told Hindustan Times on Monday that the security on the route the players are likely to take will be reinforced with

multiple layers of cover to make the core, which will be

the players’ convoy, impregnable.

Armed commandos in armoured vehicles will escort the convoy.

The DY Patil stadium will host four matches, the semi-finals on April 21 and 22, a match for the third spot on April 24 and the final on April 25.

“This will mean there will be eight onward and return trips [multiplied by the number of teams] between the hotel and venue during those four days,” a police officer said requesting anonymity.

“The greater the travelling distance, the more the vulnerability. The dates and timings for the matches are fixed,” the officer said.

“This has necessitated that the routes should be completely cleared and sanitised before a convoy passes,” he added.
