Nearly 28,000 students, who are yet to be allotted a seat in a junior college through the online admission process, have their hopes pinned on Monday’s third general merit list.

The third list, which will be declared at 5pm, is the final list, as admissions thereafter will go offline and students will have to personally go to individual colleges to confirm their admission, based on the vacancy of seats.

College principals said that cut-offs were unlikely to drop by more than a percentage point in the third list since a large number of students have secured almost identical scores in their Class 10 board exam.

At Jai Hind College, 33 students with the same score secured admission in the second general commerce merit list, when the cut-offs dropped by one mark. “Most Class 10 students have fared well this year. We can’t expect a big dip in cut-offs in the final list,” said Marie Fernandes, principal, St Andrew’s College.

For the ten boys who were allotted arts seats at the all-girls Burhani College, the final list is extremely importance as the education department officials assured them of a new allotment on Monday. “In the first two lists, my son was allotted a girls’ college despite submitting an application with the department officials. I’m pinning my hopes on the final list,” said a parent.

According to officials, top junior colleges still have vacancies for the third list.
