Four bag-snatching incidents on Link Rd

Four separate bag-snatching incidents took place on Link Road, between Santacruz and Khar on Wednesday afternoon. But what is even more alarming is that all four incidents took place in a time span of 15 minutes.

Four separate bag-snatching incidents took place on Link Road, between Santacruz and Khar on Wednesday afternoon. But what is even more alarming is that all four incidents took place in a time span of 15 minutes. The victims were travelling in rickshaws, said the police.

According to the police, the accused in all four cases are suspected to be the same as the description of the pillion rider given by all four victims is identical.

In the first incident, the handbag of Jyoti Kuwar, 35, was snatched by two unidentified accused on Shastri Nagar Road around 3pm. Kuwar, who works as an assistant manager with the Reserve Bank of India in Bhopal, was in the city to attend a training programme. According to the police, Kuwar lost Rs 22,000 in cash. Kuwar said, “I was to return to Bhopal on Thursday by flight. I have lost all my identification proofs. I don’t know if I will be allowed to board the flight.”

In the second incident, the handbag of theatre personality, Sujata Mehta, 35, was snatched away when her rickshaw halted opposite the Shastri Nagar bus depot in Santacruz. Police said Mehta had returned to the city on Wednesday morning after performing at a stage show in Gujarat. She was carrying four bags which contained clothes and costume jewellery. Mehta was robbed of jewellery and valuables collectively worth Rs13, 000.

In the fourth incident, housewife Bharti Chaturvedi, 52, was robbed of cash and valuables worth Rs13,000 when her bag was snatched on Khar Link road, around 3 pm. DCP (zone 9), Pratap Dighavkar said, “CCTV cameras are installed on the stretch leading up to Chowpatty. We are reviewing the visuals to identify the bag-snatchers.”
