Four bikers steal mobile phone, cash from woman in taxi

The four first assaulted the taxi driver and snatched his mobile phone. They then demanded the woman hand over her purse

A 38-year-old woman was robbed of her mobile phone and cash by four motorcycle-borne men at Majiwada in Thane (West) on Tuesday.

Shweta Nevar, a resident of Lodha Paradise and a businesswoman, was in a fleet cab going to the domestic airport to go to Bangalore when the incident occurred.

When the taxi reached the service road in front of Wavikar Eye Institute Hospital around 4.20am, four men in two motorcycles stopped the vehicle by standing directly in front of it.

“Nevar said the four men asked them to roll down the window. When the taxi driver refused to do so, they broke the glass with a big stone,” said YM Patil, police sub-inspector, Kapurbawadi police station.

The four first assaulted the taxi driver and snatched his mobile phone. They then demanded the woman hand over her purse.

“The woman’s purse had her mobile phone and Rs5,500 cash. They then fled towards Lodha Paradise. We registered a case on Tuesday and are looking for the accused. We did not find any CCTV camera near the spot,” said Patil.
