Month-old website The Daily Pao aims to chronicle the city’s cultural scene with facts, perspective, humour and analysis, across sections of food and drink, shopping and lifestyle, comment and analysis, and a bulletin section for weekend event listings.

The website comes from three former editors and writers at the now-defunct MumbaiBoss.com, a popular city website that shuttered in November 2014 — leaving the trio out of a job.

“We felt there was a gaping hole in the space of journalism dedicated to the city’s culture scene,” says Pronoti Datta, 34, who started up the website with colleagues Purva Mehra, 32, and Amit Gurbaxani, 37. “So instead of setting up our CVs and applying for jobs, we decided to take the plunge and start something up ourselves.”

“The Daily Pao helps me plan fun, eventful weekends,” says Azeema Ali Hussein, 34, HR consultant, who also followed MumbaiBoss. “It’s a well-curated website with interesting pieces on food, culture and social life.”
