A garage owner hanged himself at his Borivli residence. His decomposed body was found on Sunday. Nitin Chavan (40) lived with his wife and two daughters, aged 11 and 8, at Gulmohar society, Gorai. He owned a garage at Chembur.

The Borivli police said the society’s residents complained that a foul smell was coming from Chavan’s house. “Chavan was hanging by a saree from the iron rod between the hall and kitchen,” said an officer. The police said Chavan had died at least three to four days ago. On May 14, his wife and children had gone to their village for a wedding.
“Chavan had last spoken to her on May 17 and asked when she was returning. She had said they would be returning in four days,” the officer added.
Investigations revealed that Chavan was depressed about his garage being torn down as the land on which it was was being redeveloped. “As he did not have the necessary documents, he was tense that he would not be able to reclaim the property and become jobless,” said an officer adding that his wife used to do tailoring work at home. The post mortem report confirmed death due to hanging.
