Speaking at the inauguration of the renovated Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan — the Mumbai regional Congress committee’s offices at Azad Maidan — Sonia said it was her party’s commitment to development in all areas saw the people return the Congress to power at the Centre.

“This is the first time since 1991 that the Congress has won such massive support,” she said. “Mumbai is the pride of our country and we are committed to making all facilities available to its citizens.”

Sonia added that she was confident that Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra would vote for the Congress in the Assembly polls scheduled for October 13.

“There are challenges ahead and we are ready to meet them,” she told party workers. “We will continue to work hard until we achieve saccha swaraj (true independence).”

“I thank you all for reaching out to people with government schemes,” she said.
