The vice-chancellor’s post has been lying vacant for the last three months.

Governor K. Sankaranarayanan has dissolved the search committee formed for the selection.

A new search committee will now be constituted and the process of selection of V-C will start afresh, said a press release from Raj Bhavan.

The previous governor S.C. Jamir had constituted the search committee in July 2009 under the chairmanship of Professor Andre Beteille, Emeritus Professor of Sociology, University of Delhi for recommending the panel of names. Prof M.S. Ananth, director IIT, Chennai and J.S. Saharia, principal secretary, Higher and Technical Education Department were the other members.

Raj Bhavan clarified that there would be not be any bar on the newly constituted search committee to consider the present panellists along with other eligible people for appointment as the V-C.

Sources in the Higher Education Department said that Raj Bhavan had faced criticism when the selection process of V-Cs began three months ago.

The rule was amended to appoint Padma awardee (Andre Beteille) the chairman of the search committee, said a senior officer requesting anonymity.
